Basket Weaving Instructions

In A Song of Frutas by Margarita Engle, baskets of all shapes and sizes are used to display and carry the beautiful, juicy mangos, limes, and pineapples. Music Readers that received this box used a basket weaving template to display their new Nino Percussion fruit shakers. Here are the step-by-step instructions for completing that craft…with pictures!

Tips

  • The tighter you pull the raffia as you are weaving, the closer together the template arms will be. This will affect the size of your basket.

  • Time to complete: Approximately 20 minutes

  • You can cut the small bundle of raffia in half to help speed up the “sewing” process. Pulling all that extra raffia through that many holes takes a bit of time.
