Frédéric Chopin
1810-1849
Chopin was a talented pianist who wrote challenging music for the instrument. More than 230 of Chopin’s works have survived, most of which were written for solo piano.
Lili Boulanger
1893-1918
Lili wrote over 50 works during her short life. Born into a musical family, it was discovered that she had perfect pitch when she was just two years old. Lili was the first woman to win the Prix de Rome competition for music.
Gabriel fauré
1845-1924
Gabriel Faure was a composer, pianist, organist and teacher. He wrote more than 100 works. He taught many well-known French musicians including Maurice Ravel and Nadia Boulanger (Lili Boulanger’s older sister.)
